Building a Kitchen for Bound Together!
Bound Together
is desperately in need of a new kitchen. The food, meal preparation,
serving, and clean-up are provided by members of St. Phillip’s Church,
Rochester. With popping ceiling and floor tiles, inadequate work and
storage space, outdated appliances, and the need for a proper
dishwashing area, the kitchen is sorely lacking in function and safety
– basic requirements needed to prepare 90+ meals each week. Our goal
is to build a kitchen, inspire a community, and nurture the growing
minds, bodies, and spirits of children. Please join us by making a
contribution to “Build a Kitchen for Bound Together.” Donations may be
made to: Bound Together, 167 W. Pike St.
Pontiac, MI 48341. Please indicate “Kitchen” on your check.
Bound Together (248-334-3827) began in 1994 as a small tutoring program started by retired Pontiac teachers and members of All Saints’ Episcopal Church. In 1995, Bound Together added a Kids’ Café dinner program serving approximately 25 children at the time.
In 1998, All Saints’ asked The Rev. Deacon Barbara Fry to assume the responsibility of the program and to grow it. There is no question that “Miss Barbara,” as the children affectionately knew her, did grow it! In 1999, Bound Together became a non-profit tax-exempt corporation and reached out to include help from the community on the board and as tutors. In late 2005 Deacon Barbara Fry retired.
Bound Together hosts holiday parties, summer programs, as well as the all important component of tutoring. Grades improve along with behavior. If you would like to volunteer as a tutor, please call Paula or Sister Helen at 248-334-3827.
Bound Together is affecting well over 100 children a year in one form or another. Bound Together’s budget now reaches over $200,000.00 in goods and services to the community. Most of the funding is raised through private donations, local churches, and grants from charitable foundations and partners and ministry. During the summer, Bound Together collaborated with Marygrove College. They provided a successful summer school camp experience. The children come back year after year to experience a safe, creative, after school and summer program.
Bound Together is small in comparison to other non-profits. However, it is the “Best Kept Secret in Pontiac.” Bound Together was honored with awards for its work with the Maggillum Award from the Food Bank of Oakland County, the Robert “Cy” Green Village Warrior Award, the Crofoot School Community Partner Award and the Detroit Area Council Boy Scout Award for Community Service. Recently, in recognition of Bound Together’s contributions to the community, Lambda Rho Zeta Chapter, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, selected it as recipient of their Community Service Award for 2005.
All Saints’ is extremely proud to have Bound Together as its partner in ministry.
